With election season upon us, we thought it would be good to talk about the importance of voting. Many people participate in national elections but don’t always realize the importance of participating in local elections. Inez Bordeaux educates the TASM crew on the impact of having a voice in local government. Inez is an abolitionist, a nurse and a community organizer that works to combat the criminalization of poverty and state violence, especially in communities of color.

In this episode, the TASM Crew tackles the difficult and often triggering topic of domestic violence. Unfortunately, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience this abuse in their lifetime. We asked our Associate Pastor Rev. Angela Tate to join the conversation to shed a light on this topic that is often swept under the rug and offer guidance, resources and relief to those impacted.
Rev. Angela is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the State of Missouri and has over 20-years of experience in non-profit leadership including most recently at Behavioral Health Response (BHR) where she served as Vice President of Operations. She has served in volunteer ministry at West Side in various capacities including as an Associate Minister, Sunday Morning Bible Study teacher and as a leader in the Stephen’s Ministry which is a Christian Caregiving ministry. She currently serves as Associate Pastor of West Side. She is a sought-after conference speaker and workshop facilitator often speaking about topics such as Self-Care, Leadership, Suicide Prevention and Mental Health and the Church.

What's on your playlist? Music is an essential part to every society. Even the Bible is full of music. In the Bible you will find songs of praise, lament, victory, etc. As believers, we know that Philippians 4:8 tell us to dwell on or think about things that are true, noble, right and pure. Even though it was not specifically talking about music, it can definitely be used as a guide on the content of our music preferences. In this episode, the TASM crew talks about the music culture of today, and tackles the question of does it matter what kind of music we listen to regularly.

Purity culture, today, is labeled as antiquated, unnecessary, and even traumatic for some. As Christians, we believe sex was designed by God to be enjoyed between husband and wife. However, the voices of the culture are promoting a different message, that everyone should experience sex before marriage and even have a “promiscuous phase.” In this episode, the TASM crew shares their thoughts on this provocative topic.

In this episode, the TASM crew dives into the complexities of faith deconstruction, a popular term in modern Christianity. It is defined as the breaking down or analyzing of one's faith practices and beliefs to determine their truthfulness. When one deconstructs their faith, they are seeking to understand why they believe what they believe, or in some cases determine if they really believe at all. Join us as we discuss what deconstruction has looked like in the past, share our personal testimonies, and give some helpful tips on how to navigate it.

In today’s episode, TASM addresses the subject of generational curses, those familial habits that are passed down through generations that are opposite of God’s way. The TASM crew opens the episode with a discussion about Kirk Franklin’s viral YouTube’s documentary, Father’s Day, and then are very transparent about some of their own experienced generational curses and/ or blessings to identify some common generational curses and some practical and biblical ways to identify and break them.

God created sex and created us as sexual beings. However, being a sexual being is not synonymous with being sexually active. In today’s episode, the TASM crew along with West Side’s own Dawn Jones started the conversation about sexual integrity and porn. As Christians, we have the responsibility to discover, embrace, and navigate sexuality as a God given aspect of our lives and make decisions that honor him and our beliefs.
Dawn Jones is a licensed counselor, life coach, and conference speaker from St. Louis, MO. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Trauma Studies Certificate from the University of Missouri – St. Louis and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO. She utilizes EMDR and DBT to help both teens and adults heal from abuse and trauma, overcome addictive behavioral patterns, as well as coping with symptoms of adjustment disorders. She also is an ordained minister at West Side MBC.
